A LIFE OF SERVICE
Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert, Jr. has devoted his life to Christian service, pastoral leadership, education, missions, civic engagement, and the advancement of God’s Kingdom. For nearly four decades, he has served as Pastor of Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where his ministry has extended far beyond the pulpit and into the lives of people, families, churches, and communities.
NATIONAL BAPTIST LEADERSHIP
A respected national and global faith leader, Dr. Tolbert serves as the 15th President of the National Baptist Convention of America International, Inc. (NBCA), where he provides visionary leadership to churches, pastors, and members across the Convention. Through his leadership, NBCA continues to strengthen ministry development, missions, Christian education, leadership training, and Kingdom impact throughout the nation and around the world.
MISSIONS AND GLOBAL OUTREACH
Dr. Tolbert’s commitment to missions and global outreach is reflected through his service as President Emeritus of the Louisiana Home & Foreign Missions Baptist State Convention and President of the North American Baptist Fellowship, a division of the Baptist World Alliance. Through these roles, his ministry has reached across communities, cultures, and nations in fulfillment of the Great Commission.
EDUCATION AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
In addition to his pastoral and denominational leadership, Dr. Tolbert is deeply committed to education and civic service. He serves as Chairman of the Board at Simmons College of Kentucky and on the Board of Supervisors for the Southern University System. His public service has also included leadership on the Lake Charles City Council and the Louisiana Economic Development Corporation, reflecting his long-standing belief that faith should serve both the church and the community.
STRATEGIC FAITH LEADERSHIP MINISTRIES
Dr. Tolbert is also the President of Strategic Faith Leadership Ministries, a ministry and leadership resource organization designed to equip faith-driven leaders through books, training, leadership development, ministry resources, and practical tools for Kingdom impact. Through Strategic Faith Leadership Ministries, Dr. Tolbert provides resources that help pastors, ministry leaders, churches, and organizations strengthen leadership, expand ministry effectiveness, and serve with greater purpose.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICE
An entrepreneur and consultant, Dr. Tolbert is the President and CEO of Royal Magnolia Enterprises, a consulting and distribution company founded in 2018. He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where his commitment to brotherhood, leadership, and service continues to be reflected.
ACADEMIC PREPARATION
Dr. Tolbert’s educational journey includes studies at McNeese State University, the Historic Bishop College, Shaw Divinity School, Payne Theological Seminary, and Union University, where he earned the Doctor of Ministry degree. His life and leadership reflect a deep commitment to faith, education, service, and the development of leaders who are prepared to make a lasting impact.
FAMILY
He and his wife, Matilda Edwards Tolbert, have shared an enduring marriage and are the proud parents of two daughters, Candace Latrice and Kayla Monique.
